Georgia’s Education Tax Credit Program

Georgia’s Education Tax Credit Program

It’s a quick and easy process and is a BIG WIN for everyone!

Use your tax dollars to help Vidalia Heritage Academy!

Everyone works hard for their money. We are all required to pay a portion of our earnings in taxes both on a federal and state level, often without any control of how this money is spent or who gets to benefit from it. Until now! The Georgia Education Tax Credit Program provides an alternative.

Through this program, Georgia taxpayers are given the opportunity to choose how a portion of their state taxes are to be utilized. Instead of paying their taxes and it being distributed across the state via the state budget, taxpayers can now direct some of their taxes to be used to help local students and families at Vidalia Heritage Academy!

Contributing makes sense.

You have to pay them anyway.

It’s simply redirecting the money you’re already going to pay in Georgia state income taxes. Why not support local students and families at Vidalia Heritage Academy?

There is no cost to contribute.

By contributing, you will receive a dollar-for-dollar tax credit for the amount of your contribution. For every dollar contributed, your state tax bill is reduced by that same amount.

Anyone can participate.

Any Georgia taxpayer can contribute a portion of their state taxes to this program. Businesses, individuals, married couples, LLCs, S-corps, partnerships, C-corps, trusts, and, yes, even parents!*

*Please note:

  • Whether a parent donates or not has no impact on their child’s scholarship eligibility or award amount.
  • Contributors can direct their contribution to be used at a school of their choosing; like Vidalia Heritage Academy. However, they cannot, in any way, determine which particular student(s) receive a scholarship or the award amount that a student receives.

How it works:

This program allows Georgia taxpayers to simply redirect a portion of their state income taxes.

Contributions are made through an approved scholarship organization like the Alyn Scholarship Fund (ASF) and designated to a qualified private school (such as Vidalia Heritage Academy) in the state. ASF then uses those contributions to award scholarships to eligible students at the school.

It’s simply a matter of where your hard-earned tax dollars go and who gets to spend it.

Contribute in just two simple steps:

1. Submit a request.

Fill out the appropriate Paperless Donation Form and the Alyn Scholarship Fund will submit your request to the Georgia Department of Revenue for approval. Once approved, the Georgia Department of Revenue will send a letter informing you of the approved amount you can donate.

2. Make your contribution.

Once approved, contributors have 60 days to make their contribution. This can be done by check or online. That’s it! When it’s time to file your taxes, you’ll be able to use your tax credits from this program.

What it's used for:

This is a scholarship program that provides students, parents, and families better access to more educational opportunities.

Private schools, like VHA, don’t get the luxury of tapping into local property tax revenues, SPLOST initiatives or state/federal funding. Rather, the cost of private education is shared among all families who participate. The more students that attend a private school, the more families that share the cost which reduces the financial expense for everyone.

This scholarship program not only helps make it more affordable for families choosing private education, but also offers the opportunity to grow enrollment which, in turn, “lightens the load” for all families. It also helps to provide the school with additional financial resources to improve programs and facilities.

Maximum contribution amounts:

Individual Filer                         $2,500

Married Filing Separately       $2,500

Please note: This is not an all or nothing program. Contributions in each category can be made for less than the maximums listed.
