Over the summer your child will be required to read at least 2 books.  A third book may be read for an extra credit score of 100.  It is important that your child read every day.  Below is a detailed outline of what will be required reading:

Mandatory Reading—

Around the World in 80 Days  by Jules Verne.

            After reading this book, please complete the Around the World in 80 Days Report Form and return it on the first day of school.  This will be your child’s first grade of the school year.

Selected Reading—Choose any 1 book from the following list and after reading it complete the Selected Reading Report Form and return it on the first day of school.  This will be your child’s second grade of the year.

Children of the Covered Wagon                                       by Mary Jane Carr

Extra Credit Selected Reading—Choose any 1 book from the following list and after reading it complete the Extra Credit Selected Reading Report Form and return it on the first day of school for an extra credit score of 100.

Land of the Morning                                                               by Jean McAnlis McMurdie

If I Perish                                                                                by Esther Ahn Kim

Mandatory Reading Books are available for purchase in the School Office.

Price: Around the World in 80 Days—$6.50

VHA will buy the book back from you after the first day of school for half of the original purchase price.

Selected Reading Books may be checked out of local libraries or purchased at bookstores.  If you have trouble locating books, please call the school office.
