Over the summer your child will be required to read at least 3 books.  It is important that your child read every day.  Below is a detailed outline of what will be required reading:

Mandatory Reading—

Cam Jansen and the Mystery of the Stolen Diamonds by David A. Adler.

            After reading this book, please complete the Cam Jansen Report Form and return it on the first day of school.  This will be your child’s first grade of the school year.

Selected Reading 1—Choose any 1 book from the following list and after reading it complete one of the Selected Reading Report Forms and return it on the first day of school.  This will be half of your child’s second grade of the year.

Magic School Bus Series (any book)                                       by Cole and Degen

Childhood of Famous Americans Series (any book)              by various authors

Selected Reading 2—Choose any 1 book from the following list and after reading it complete one of the Selected Reading Report Forms and return it on the first day of school.  This will be half of your child’s second grade of the year.

Cooper Kids Adventure Series (any book)                             by Frank Peretti

Mandatory Reading Books are available for purchase in the School Office.

VHA will buy the book back from you after the first day of school for half of the original purchase price.

Selected Reading Books may be checked out of local libraries or purchased at bookstores.  If you have trouble locating books, please call the school office.
